Kickball for Cancer
Todd Meany
MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH - Eighty elementary school students are about to get the chance to play kickball at Progressive Field.
The event is thanks to huge fundraising effort at the school on behalf of first grader Gavin Suesse. At the age of two, Gavin was diagnosed with Leukemia.
"Gavin and I have had a rough road," says mom Bethel Suesse "but we've been together through it all, and it's nice to be with him having a good time."
Over the past few months, the school has been holding fundraisers culminating with Friday's kickball tournament. Their goal was 5,000 dollars. With all the pledges continuing to come in, they have raised eleven thousand, nine hundred dollars.
That amount of money will be donated to a national grassroots organization called "Kick it." Because they raised so much, they are allowed to send four kickball teams to play kickball at Progressive Field in Downtown Cleveland. Gavin's team is set to play in mid-June.
Gavin is recovering, his prognosis is excellent, but he still at only six years old, has been through a lot. He knows how important this fundraising will be, not necessarily for him, but for all the other patients he knows that still need help.
